Fix Broken Eyeshadow

February 23, 2019 by chris@merrittandco.com

Recently, I purchased some new eyeshadow. I don’t wear eyeshadow very often, but I LOVE my BareMinerals eyeshadow pallet that I have had for about five years. It is almost totally empty and it got to the point where there really was nothing left in the individual wells do shadow, so I had to breakdown and buy another one. So I did. And, of-course, they didn’t have my old eyeshadow pallet, so I picked this beautiful new one and couldn’t wait to get home and try it!

The next morning, I was so happy to put on the new colors! It felt new and fresh and I decided I was happy with the new pallet and could officially throw the old one away! (Sniff) It was time to move on, turn the page and start a new chapter. I had no idea that I had grown so attached to my cosmetics! It probably was more of a habit. So, I went to put my new eyeshadow pallet away in my bathroom cabinet, and it happened. I dropped the new eyeshadow onto my tile floor. Argh. How did I manage to do that?!? Not even 24 hours old.

The impact broke up one corner of the eyeshadow inside. I don’t think I had even tried that color yet. I was angry. At myself. It felt like I had just wasted my money. So I decided I needed to find a way to fix it!

Can it be fixed?

Luckily, I still had that little plastic liner sheet on top of the eyeshadows in my pallet, so the shadow stayed contained in its ‘section’. And, it is the darkest color so it makes a huge mess every time I use the other colors. So, how am I going to fix this? My first thought is to take a spray bottle with water in it, mist the eyeshadow a bit, just to get it damp, and then push all the shadow back into its square. I tried. Turns out, the water just sits on top of the eyeshadow. Duh. I guess I should have figured it would do that with mineral makeup!! It might work on other types of make up, but not mineral! fix broken eyeshadow

So, now what? I now have water and eyeshadow every where! As I was trying to push the eyeshadow back into its square and soak up the floating water droplets, I used a tissue to shove it all around. That ended up breaking the eyeshadow more…what a mess! I took that little sheet of protective plastic and started pushing the shadow back into its square. Hard. And it worked!! So, it is a super easy way to fix the mess and it seems to holding up to light traveling too! I have taken it to a volleyball tournament in my bag, and it is still holding together. I know we all have broken an eyeshadow pallet, or something similar. I hope this helps save some of your favorite cosmetics!
