Anytime I ask my 14 year old what she would like for gifts, I get the same old answer…. gift cards. I totally understand her desire to go shop and find really cool things to buy, but opening gift cards for Christmas or birthdays is not very exciting!
Right from the 14 Year Old!
In an attempt to collect ideas on what THINGS 14 year old girls really like to receive, I trapped my 14 year old daughter in the car for an hour and a half drive and questioned her about things she and her friends like to buy when they go shopping (with their gift cards). I am so happy to share this list with you because why not? You shouldn’t have to try to drag ideas out of your friendly 14 year old, whom you are trying to buy gifts for!!
Unique 14 Year Olds
Keep in mind, you still have to take note of the personality you are buying for. I have two daughters. One will wear any wild color out there, she doesn’t care if her clothes are the perfect match or if her hair looks like a model. The other, however, will ONLY wear blues, blacks and reds, her clothes have to be a PERFECT match, and is willing to spend hours on her hair instead of her homework. So, if one of the gift ideas happens to be a necklace – think about what your 14 year old would wear – a wild one with lots of colors or a simple one with a small design.
Finally
Since all 14 year old girls really are teenagers, keep all your receipts! I have purchased a gift thinking I had found IT, the ONE gift that was going to make her shine… only to find out I was off the mark. Since the teenage brain works in mysterious way, it is safe to keep the receipt so they can exchange your gift if the winds, or their friends, have gone in a different direction.
