Our New (to us) Camper Journey

August 30, 2017 by chris@merrittandco.com

Camping is a way of life for us.  I grew up camping with my family and have so many wonderful memories of all the places we were able to visit and all the fun conversations (and s’mores) around the campfire! We began camping with my kids when they were about 4 years old. It all began in a tent. That really didn’t last long because I was always cold and more than once, our tent came untied and the winds collapsed the thing on top of us in the middle of the night. Not my idea of fun. So we upgraded to a pop-up camper. It was like heaven complete with king and queen size beds and an air conditioner! Talk about Moving On Up!  We used that wonderful camper for several years.

At the beginning of this summer, we decided to move to a bigger camper – a hard sided bumper-pull style. So, we sold the awesome little pop-up to a great young family. I am so excited for them, they have never camped in a pop-up – so I know how much fun they will be having in it!

A New Camper

It took us a few months to find the perfect camper for us. For a long time, we were only looking at brand new campers. Then, someone in our area posted a great used camper on our local Facebook garage sale page, and we fell in love! It is quite a bit older than we were looking for (2006) but it is in such good shape, we bought it! Our new (to us) camper is a Trail Cruiser, 24 feet long, with a bed that slides out the back. It also has a couch, a dinette, a bathroom and four bunks in the front of the camper. Perfect for a family of four and any friends or cousins that want to tag along!

Camper Updates

I love this camper and I am so inspired to make some really fun updates and try out some organization tips. When we first got the camper and took it out for our first camping trip, I felt like the storage space was so HUGE that I didn’t need to worry about where to put things to keep everyone organized. BUT… then on our week long trip to Yellowstone this summer it became clear that we really need to plan out where everything is kept! This helps with frustration – both in getting up and ready to Camper Extendedgo for the day (so you know where to find your socks) and how to make meals without having to open every single cabinet to find the salt….

I am bringing you along my journey of redecorating and organizing! Here are some ‘Before’ pictures. Stay tuned for posts on what we are doing to make it completely and uniquely ours!!

This camper look great! I love the bunks at the front. You don’t see that in campers. Camping is such a fun activity with kids. 🙂
