Quick and Easy Garland

December 6, 2018 by chris@merrittandco.com

Quick and Easy Garland

It is that time of year, when I put so much pressure on myself to get the house looking beautiful, watch all the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies, make lots of homemade goodies to share, get the mounds of gifts purchased as soon as possible to avoid the craziness, get Christmas cards in the mail, make sure my neighbors feel the love and my animals have little treats too, or the kids make me feel awful. Phew. That is way too much stuff!! So, let’s focus on the quick and easy! I have recently been making my own quick and easy garland for a simple and cute decoration!

I started making them at Thanksgiving time, and then continued on into the Christmas theme with them. They are super simple, and don’t require very many supplies! All you need is paper, scotch tape, a little glue, some twine or string, and some embellishments. And to be honest, based on the paper you have (or choose) you don’t even have to have embellishments!

Tree Garland

Let’s start with the tree garland. This quick and easy garland is just triangles cut out of festive Christmas paper, with a small little pom-pom glued at the top of the tree, all strung together on some twine. Easy peasy! Other than the time it took for those little pom-poms that were glued on, to dry… it probably took 20 minutes start to finish! What an easy project!

Pie Garland

The second quick and easy garland I made looks like pumpkin pie slices! It is so super cute with lace for the crust and some cotton for whipped cream. I even spritzed the orange paper with some Glimmer Mist in Copper by Tattered Angels to give it some sparkle and interest.

Supplies

Paper – any size, any color or pattern – enough to make as many triangles as you want to hang

Glue – Good old white glue to add any embellishments that you want

Tape – plain old scotch tape to tape the twine to the back of the triangles

Twine/String/Yarn – whatever you are going to use to hang the triangles on – in a length that will cover the area you wish to hang the garland on

Embellishments – If you choose to use embellishments, here is what I used:

Burlap Lace Ribbon

Cotton Balls

Glimmer Mist (Copper)

Metallic Pom-Poms

How to Make it!

Here’s how you make the quick and easy garland:

  • Cut triangles to the size you desire. Mine are 3 inches wide and 4.5 inches tall. I used my Cricut to cut out the triangles, but you can cut triangles by hand, too. They are super easy!

  • If you want to mist the triangles with any glimmer, do it now, before you add any embellishments

  • Add embellishments like pom-poms (for tree toppers), ribbon (for pie crust), cotton (for whipped cream)

  • Measure where you want to hang your garland and add about 6 inches. Cut your twine/string/yarn to this length
Twine
  • Attach the triangles to the twine at fairly even intervals, using scotch tape on the back of the triangles
  • Hang and enjoy!
