Do the taco seasoning packets you get at the store taste funny? Why don’t they taste like my favorite restaurant’s taco meat?? AND the gallons of water I need to drink after I use one of the packets for tacos. SALT OVERLOAD.
While surfing online one day, I found a great looking taco seasoning recipe and gave it a try! Soooo much better than the prepackaged stuff!! And, I can control the salt – Bonus!
MY family has used this taco seasoning for a few years now and have done a little tweaking to make it ‘ours’. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Homemade Taco Seasoning
Ingredients
- 1.5 tsp Garlic Powder
- .75 tsp Onion Powder
- 1.5 tsp Oregano, dried
- 2 tsp Black Pepper
- 4 Tbs Chili Powder
- 3 Tbs Paprika
- 3 tsp Sea Salt
- 1.5 tsp Cumin
Instructions

Mix all ingredients together and store in an air tight container. If your family likes a little more heat in their seasoning, adding some red pepper flakes will kick it up a notch!
Use 2 Tablespoons per pound of meat. Add about 1/4 cup of water with the meat and seasoning and cook until the water is absorbed. Serve as you would any taco seasoned meat!
